Celebration Choir and Ensemble sang at St. Therese Catholic Church for the Music Educators National Conference (MENC*) Festival, March 20.
Along with the high school choirs, the elementry and junior high choirs also performed below the plaster relief of St. Mary. Both high school choirs performed at the same time, singing three songs. Tomorrow the Ensemble will participate again, but without the Celebration Choir.
The FC groups sang “Dies Irea” from Mozart’s Requium, “Did Mary Know?” and “Song of Exaltation.” Director Ogdon likes the Mozart for its POWER, Did Mary know? for its intensity, and Exaltation for its two choir antiphonal excitement.
Fifty groups from 20 schools participated in the choral festival and adjudication was done by JoAnne Stoddard of Paso Robles (American Choral Directors Association board member), Jeff Seaward from College of the Sequoias, and Dr. Roy Klassen (retired choral chair of Fresno Pacific University).
The campus choral groups will perform this same festival material at Clovis North for the Clovis Unified School District Invitational Festival, April 13.
