Fresno can be fickle sometimes.

This week our temperatures hit a high of 102 on Monday and will hit a high of 73 on Thursday. That’s a 29 degree difference in just three days. You walk out of the house feeling chilly on the way to school and by lunchtime you’re peeling off layers in a desperate attempt to cool off.
The weather can’t make up its mind, which affects how we dress. We still need everything in our closets because we’re dressing for fall in the morning and summer in the afternoon.
Because we’re kind of stuck in the middle of both seasons, I’m going to share some easy ways to transition your summer wardrobe into fall while staying comfortable and chic. Just because the weather is confused doesn’t mean our style has to be.
Summer Dresses
A fun way to extend the season of a sundress is to add tights or leggings underneath. The lightweight material of most summer dresses (or skirts) will still work into fall, and the tights or leggings will add some warmth on a chillier day.
Cardigans & Blazers
As the weather starts to cool off a bit, especially on those crisp September mornings, add a cardigan or blazer to your outfit. It will keep you toasty without the weight of a coat, and when it warms up later in the day you can easily remove it.

Layers
Layering is your friend. A t-shirt, button-down shirt, and denim jacket are a great trio. Just be careful not to over-layer – you don’t want to go more than three levels at a time, or you may look swallowed up by your own outfit.
Accessorize
You can keep your summer wardrobe flowing into fall by adding a few autumnal accessories, like a richly-hued scarf or a knit hat. Add a suede tote with fringe or studs to your rotation. And switch out your sandals for booties to step into fall.
Color
As the leaves start to change color, so should your wardrobe. Pull out those deep mustards, oranges, reds, olives and plums from your closet and give them center stage.

Styling
Sometimes a few styling tricks are all it takes to make your favorite staples fit the fickle weather. It may still be too hot for jeans, but a boyfriend jean will work if you roll up the cuffs. Wear them with your most comfy tee and sandals. If overalls are your thing, style them with that off-the-shoulder top you wore all summer. Tie a lightweight scarf around your summer shirtdress like a belt and use it as a wrap if you get chilly.
Next time I’ll share the must-have items for fall!
