Students and teachers wear their wackiest, brightest, and silliest sweaters for Ugly Christmas Sweater Day, Dec. 12. The event, put on by student leadership, aims to bring excitement for the Christmas season and the upcoming three week break.
As the final week of the semester winds down, students rush to improve their grades during finals week, hoping to finish the year strong. Student leadership believes that a silly dress-up day provides a fun break from the stress of schoolwork and finals.
Megan LeBlanc, ’20, chose not to dress up for Ugly Sweater Day due to not having an ugly sweater and her soccer game later that day.
“I chose not to wear an ugly Christmas sweater mainly because I didn’t have one,” LeBlanc said. “Also, the night of the dress up day I had a soccer game. The whole team traditionally wears warm-up jerseys to school on game days, so I chose to wear my warm-up jacket.”
Math teacher, Angie Counts, dressed up for Ugly Sweater day. Counts sees the day as a chance to show school spirit.
“I chose to dress up because I wanted to show school spirit,” Counts said. “It’s always good to show an example to my students by participating in all of the events. By dressing up, I wanted to prove to my students that teachers can also have school spirit and that teachers can be fun too.”
The next dress up day will be Friday, Dec. 15, with Pajama Day! This being the final day of the semester, students will spend the first half of the day in their academic classes. During the second half of the day, students will watch the movie, “Home Alone,” and enjoy a free Popeyes lunch if they bring in a stuffed animal to donate to Valley Childrens Hospital.
