College Corner: Evangelina Tello offers checklist for college prep

[/media-credit] Academic advisor Evangelina Tello each year prepares a September checklist for seniors as they begin preparations for college.

In the academic counselor’s office, senior meetings kicked off the 2019-2020 school year. Academic counselor for the past two years, Evangelina Tello guides students of all ages through their high school and junior high careers and college prep.

With college application deadlines approaching, Tello advises students to keep deadlines in mind. She also shares the importance of seniors starting and finishing their year strong. The consequences to a poor second semester may result in a rescinded letter of acceptance.

“Something that is very common throughout many seniors in the United States is that their acceptance letters get sent out in the beginning of the second semester, ” Tello said. “So then students are really excited that they have been accepted to their dream school. But then I have heard some students say, ‘oh, I’m going to slack off my last semester,’ and then end up getting a ‘D’. Later they find out that their application was rescinded.”

Each senior was provided a sheet of important dates to refer to when they are unsure about a deadline for a specific category. They were highly encouraged to save these dates on their phones or planners to prevent missing any deadlines or paying any late fees. Below is a list of items and dates provided to the students to keep as a resource.
