Jan. 23 is the kickoff of The Great Kindness Challenge! Started in 2011 by a local community from Carlsbad, California, the Great Kindness Challenge encourages students to spread joy throughout their schools and communities.
According to the official website, the heart of the foundation is the belief that kindness is strength. The weeklong challenge encourages students to do simple acts of service for people, promoting more harmonious environments.
Each day, students and teachers alike come in contact with many different people they can encourage. Just a few of the most common relationships teens encounter every day include:
Student-Teacher/Staff
Student-Peers
Student-Parents/Siblings
Throughout the week of the challenge, (Jan. 23- 27), if you post an act of kindness, don’t forget to use the hashtag #GrowKindness or #TheGreatKindnessChallenge.
Here’s a list of ideas to participate in the challenge
Hold the door open for someone
Compliment someone
Buy pizza for someone on Friday, or a muffin on Thursday
Start a conversation with someone who is sitting by themselves
Smile at someone in the hallway
Be patient with people
Genuinely listen
Offer a helping hand
Leave an encouraging note
