Three-peat for the FC boys tennis team winning the CIF Central Section Div. III Championship.
The historic three-peat for Fresno Christian boys tennis ends with the first ever Division III win in school athletic history, May 14.
On the heels of celebrating senior night for seven seniors who have played in four championships, the boys anticipated a tough match as they were playing in a higher division against schools four times their size. The season ended with a 7-0 win over Atascadero to clutch the CIF Central Section Div. III title and their third consecutive Valley Championship.
Match between No. 3 singles player David Martin, ’27, and Maddox Pyle kept the crowd on the edge of their seats with an exciting 10-7 tiebreaker finish. Another singles match was won quickly by Tyler Maxey 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, seniors Jacob Pimentel and Mason Meade took the lead early on, but found themselves down 6-7 and battled to win the following three games to close it out.
Coach Robert Foshee has spent 17 years developing the boys tennis program, and this was the first time the team moved into a higher division.
“We knew this team was capable of competing at a higher level,” Foshee said. “We began preparing for this in pre-season and spent time playing much harder teams throughout the valley. Together, this team decided their legacy would prove that hard work and dedication can elevate you to new heights.”
Through their four seasons together, the senior tennis players spent a lot of time bonding over the sport, making lofty goals to advance past their starting division of D-5. Jacob Pimentel, ’25, cherishes time the team has spent together and all the wins they have celebrated.
“This win is the most special out of the four championships because of playing in a higher division, but also making school history as a group of seniors who love this sport,” Pimentel said.
This win pushed FC into what will be known as the most successful year in Fresno Christian athletics with five Valley Championships including: girls tennis, girls volleyball, boys basketball, girls soccer and an individual championship for Blake Bay, ’27, in cross country, and the year is still not over.
Congratulations to the boys tennis team, coaches and families!
