Student body participates in princess pageant games for the first three days of the week.
Pack your bags and book your flights, because the next stop is “Destination Homecoming,” Fresno Christian’s 40th Annual Homecoming. During the week of Sept. 22-26, students will be journeying through a thrilling week. The itinerary is full of spirit dress-up days, princess pageants, float building, the Royal Battle and an epic showdown on the football field between the Fresno Christian Eagles and the Cornerstone Christian Cougars Friday night.
Dress Up Day: Tacky Tourist Tuesday
Students came to school with the theme of “Tacky Tourist” on Tuesday, where everyone dressed up as the stereotypical tourist. Fits included large-brimmed sun hats, khaki shorts, Hawaiian leis, “I [heart] ___” shirts and socks with sandals.
Elijah Carrao, ‘28, is helping FC leadership navigate through the chaotic week of Homecoming and execute all of the activities flawlessly.
“Despite the sudden change in Leadership staff, we are handling the early Homecoming schedule really well,” Carrao said. “My top hope though is that the half-day Fridays are here to stay.”
Princess Games
Out on the FC field, the student body got to watch a competition of cup knock-off, steal the bacon and blind karaoke. The sophomore class dominated in all of the activities at lunch, securing their first place ranking.
Sophomore Princess candidate Layna Gailey participated in the lunch activities. She helped secure her class a much-needed victory, specifically by winning the final game of cup knock-off.
“My favorite part of homecoming so far is the games,” Gailey said. “We won, so we’re kind of goated [greatest of all time].”
Final Rankings
1st – Sophomore
2nd – Junior
3rd – Freshman
Sophomore Float: Rio De Janeiro
The sophomore class gathered several times throughout the last month to perfect their Rio De Janeiro float. While other classes tackled more popular tourist locations, such as Paris chosen by the senior class, the sophomores decided on a more niche, yet stunningly beautiful, area.
Luke Kazarian, ‘28, helped participate in constructing the sophomore float four separate times throughout the last few weeks.
“Every time I’ve been there to help build [the float], it looked more and more like we hoped,” Kazarian said. “It has some of the most iconic Rio de Janeiro landmarks.”
10th Annual Homecoming

Fresno Christian held their 10th annual Homecoming 30 years ago in fall of 1995. With a decades theme woven throughout the night floats resembled the 40’s, 50’s, and 70’s along with a futuristic Jetsons themed freshman float. Homecoming court participated in the much anticipated Sumo wrestling tournament for the queen candidates while experiencing fun dress up days like “Camo Day” throughout the week.
Homecoming king and queen were Tim Poplin and Paula (Shook) Beery.
Beery, ’96, the crowned queen in 1995, recalls many memories she had while on the Homecoming court.
“I remember my dad was beaming. It was a very sweet time to share with him,” Beery said. “Some great memories I have are the floats we made being driven by semi-trucks, the homecoming court all dressed up fancy, sitting in the back of the Kreller’s convertible classic cars, and hoping the team won the football game. You can’t lose at homecoming!”
What’s ahead?
For “Lost Luggage Wednesday,” the third day of Homecoming week, students are encouraged to dress up in the most mismatched clothing combinations they can find. Wednesday is the water day competition for all the grades except the senior boys, who will be playing a game of Kajabe.
Come and cheer on the FCS Eagles at the 40th annual Homecoming football game on Friday, Sept. 26. The Eagles will be playing Cornerstone Christian High School; kickoff is at 7 p.m. with king and queen crowning during halftime.
