ASB President, Natalie Garcia has been in student leadership for all four years of high school.
Fresno Christian student leadership writes a column in The Feather to represent the voice of the student body. A long-standing tradition, leadership officials are given the opportunity to share insight with the FCS community. From words of wisdom to goals for the school, leadership students hope to connect with their peers through this column.
Hey, Eagles! If I haven’t gotten the chance to meet you yet, I’m Natalie Garcia, your ‘25-‘26 ASB President. When I first received the news of winning the race for the presidency, I experienced a whirlwind of emotions. On one hand, I was excited about the opportunity to plan events and bring energy back to our student body with the help of our high school leadership team. On the other hand, I felt nervous, wondering what others might think of me and the assumptions that might come with being “Mr. Garcia’s daughter.”
As I started to process those feelings, I realized something important: leadership isn’t about me at all; it is all about serving others. When I think about examples of leadership in the Bible, names like Moses, Paul and David come to mind. But the greatest example of leadership is Jesus. He is the perfect example of selfless, servant-hearted leadership. Mark 10:45 reveals his purpose: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

I think a lot of us have grown up hearing the Bible story of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet in Sunday school or Vacation Bible School (VBS), but haven’t truly thought about the act of humility and selflessness this is. This story takes place in John 13:1-17; right before Jesus was going to be crucified, He washed each of His twelve disciples’ feet. This is a powerful reminder that true leadership isn’t about being above others; it’s about serving others first.
One acronym that I live by is JOY: Jesus, Others, You. For me, this is a daily reminder of what to prioritize. First, my relationship with Jesus, then putting the needs of others before my own, and finally, caring for myself. Through all of this, we should have a “we over me” mindset. I’ve come to understand that real leadership isn’t about the title or the spotlight; it’s about creating a culture where people feel seen, known and valued.
So, here’s my challenge for all of us this year: be willing to serve each other. Whether it’s complimenting someone, cheering your classmates on during a game, sitting with someone new at lunch or lending a helping hand. All of these small acts of kindness aid the cultivation of the kind of school community we all want to be a part of.

And now for some fun things to look forward to:
Oct. 20 – Bonfire rally! A night with spike ball, a drive-in movie, dinner, and time in community.
Dec. 20 – Winter Formal! The theme is “A Night in Winter Wonderland” at Wolf Lakes. Can’t wait to see you all there!
Fall sports – Fall sports are still in full swing! Come out and support your Eagles, and stay tuned for senior nights.
That’s all for now, see you around campus!
