The school year is coming to an end and campus students are set free, every person will be doing something different with their vacation months. Some will go to work, others volunteer and even more will kick back and enjoy the empty summer afternoons.
However not everyone will be just sitting in front of their televisions; some students have summer jobs to earn their own vacation money.
“I will be working at Fresno State, feeding cows and making ice cream,” Jonathan Degroot, ?02, said.
Degroot is not the only student that will be on the farm, a few others will be helping with the family animals.
“I will be working at my riding stables,” Kathleen Von Oehsen, ’04, said. “I will be teaching little kids how to take care of their horses.”
Campus students also know how to do things other than tend to livestock. Some have secured jobs that allow them to take advantage of the summer heat.
“I have a job as a lifeguard at Clovis West,” Seth Fisher, ’04, said. “I will also be a swim teacher.”
Not all students working this summer will go home with a paycheck; some are participating in volunteer projects with their churches.
“I am going to Mexico with my church,” Danielle Roberts, ’03, said. “I will be living in an orphanage, building homes and teaching children about God through Vacation Bible School.”
However, Mexico is not the only place that can use help, there are many opportunities to minister in America.
“I will be building houses and helping with Vacation Bible School in Dallas, Texas,” Gina Arabia, ’03, said.
Some campus students will be going on trips with their families, and not just to Grandma’s house for the weekend.
“My family and I are going to Japan,” Bethany Gong, ’03, said, “we will be visiting different palaces and temples.”
Japan is not the only foreign country campus students will be meandering around in.
“My family is going to Australia, I’ll be there tanning and swimming at the beach,” Whitney Counts, ’03, said.
Whether vacation be spent by the side of a pool, an ancient temple, or a horse, the summer has been long-awaited and will be enjoyed by many.
“The school year has moved fast, but not fast enough,” Eric Neufeld, ’05, said. “I’m very glad it is time for vacation, I need a break.” “Carli Albrechtson, Retired photographer” “Bethany Gong, ?03, plans on traveling to Japan this summer.” “Carli Albrechtson, Photographer” “Jonathan DeGroot, ?04, plans on working at the farm at Fresno State University this summer.” “
