BASEBALL 2012
FC ADDS TWO WINS–May 1
Since the previous scheduled game against the Tranquillity Tigers was rained out, a double-header was scheduled against the Eagles, May 1.
The score was almost neck and neck at the end of the first, 2-1 FC, but the Eagles surged ahead in the second, scoring six runs. Adam Wood, ’12, JP Caprioglio, ’13, and Lance Henderson, ’15, all hit .500 while seniors Trevor York, 3-5, and Ryan Neufeld, 2-2, headed up FC’s offense as they ultimately won 26-1.
Freshman third basemen John Dooman says that after the first game the team refocused in order to not let the second game slip away.
“We were kind of worried about the second game that we would get tired and wouldn’t take them seriously,” Dooman said. “Since they also brought out their good pitcher the second game out coach [Noah Heinz] just told us to focus and not get lazy.”
Although FC’s momentum slowed down in the second game, they still maintained their lead to win 5-2. Caprioglio pitched the first game and JD Freitas, ’15, stepped up in the second and threw five strikeouts.
Already looking to the next game, senior Josh Hopper, says this game was a stepping stone of confidence especially for the younger players.
“I definitely think winning both of those games gave the younger guys confidence,” Hopper said. “It takes a whole team not just four or five strong players. The bottom of your lineup has to be confident. So if we play our game against Caruthers we should be fine.”
The Eagles will next host Caruthers on Senior Night, May 4.
