Seniors Olivia Quebe, Sierra Duffy, Kristina Muniz and Brittany Bender have been the driving force behind the FC girls volleyball team. Tuesday, Nov. 3, was the game that marked the end of the girls’ high school volleyball career. The Feather would like to highlight one of the girls each day, to give a glimpse into their relationship with volleyball and their plans for the future.
Senior Sierra Duffy has played on the varsity volleyball team for two years. Duffy’s last time playing on the Fresno Christian court was on the girl’s volleyball senior night, Nov. 3.
Duffy has been going to the school since kindergarten. She has played volleyball for a total of three years. Once in junior high and twice in high school. Duffy says she still continues to learn how to improve in her skills to this day.
“I learned the basics in junior high from Coach Mendoza, my junior high volleyball coach,” Duffy said. “I started learning more from Jeff MacNeil in 10th grade. Even now, I’m still learning how to do certain plays and perfect other things from Katie Reneau.”
“I’ve always enjoyed how close the team gets. Playing is definitely enjoyable, but getting to know and become friends with 10 plus girls that I wouldn’t have normally talked to is definitely my favorite part.” — Sierra Duffy
Duffy’s favorite part of volleyball is getting to know her friends and the competitiveness of the sport.
“I’ve always enjoyed how close the team gets,” Duffy said. “Playing is definitely enjoyable, but getting to know and become friends with 10 plus girls that I wouldn’t have normally talked to is definitely my favorite part.”
Over the years Duffy has made a ton of memories but the highlight of her career was making all of the impossible plays happen.
“It always feels really good to get a dig on a ball that no one thought you were gonna get up,” Duffy said. “It’s even better to save one and then get a kill from that play.”
Sierra doesn’t plan on playing in college so this will be her last time on the Fresno Christian court. Sierra plans to go to Clovis Community College, where she hopes to use some of the things she learned from volleyball to help her get through her college schooling.
“I plan on attending Clovis Community for two years to get my GE,” Duffy said. “I will then transfer to a 4 year because I’m not sure what I want to major in yet. I think playing volleyball has built my team building skills and helped me learn to work with people.”
