Quebe leads with zeal, strong athleticism
Seniors Olivia Quebe, Sierra Duffy, Kristina Muniz and Brittany Bender have been the driving force behind the FC girls volleyball team. Tuesday, Nov. 3, was the game that marked the end of the girls’ high school volleyball career. The Feather would like to highlight one of the girls each day, to give a glimpse into their relationship with volleyball and their plans for the future.
Olivia Quebe has garnered a range of volleyball skills through the years, as she has been playing volleyball since junior high. She is a major contributor to the team, and has lead her fellow teammates to many wins.
Quebe has been going to the school since kindergarten. She always had an interest in sports, and when she finally found the sport she liked she stuck with it and played whenever she could. Her coach in junior high is the reason why she is playing today.
“When I was younger I tried every sport,” Quebe said. “But I started playing volleyball my 7th grade year at Fresno Christian, but I didn’t really learn how to play volleyball until my first year of club volleyball in 8th grade. My first club coach was Kailey Allen who is now the assistant coach for Fresno Pacific’s women’s volleyball team. I was on her 14’s area club team. I have been on varsity since my freshman year. I have played middle blocker, setter and outside hitter (currently I’m a middle blocker).”
Quebe has a passion for volleyball. She enjoys all the intense moments in the game and building her friendships.
“It is hard to pick my favorite aspect of volleyball,” Quebe explains. “For club, my favorite part is the competitiveness and intensity of the sport. However, the best part of school volleyball is being able to strengthen my relationships with my teammates because we are all just a bunch of goofballs.”
Playing club volleyball and playing for school makes volleyball year round sport for Quebe. However she really enjoys playing on both and the highlight of her career was winning the championship on her club team.
“I would have to say the highlight of my volleyball career was playing club volleyball my sophomore year,” Quebe said. “I was playing for Pacific Premier’s 16’s power team and we were at a tournament with thousands of teams from across the country. Our team was in the second highest division, silver, and ended up going to the championship match and won! We probably celebrated for a solid two days.”
Quebe doesn’t plan on playing in college, but she hopes this won’t be her last time playing. Her passion will follow her beyond the halls of high school.
“At the moment, my plan is to attend Biola University and receive my Bachelor of Art’s degree in Journalism and Integrated Media.” Quebe said,” Volleyball has taught me how to work well with others and also how to be a leader which I believe will help me in the future. I still have a great passion for the sport and hope to play on the intramural team.”
