The Christmas season is a time for giving. These charities below help people in need everyday, not just specifically during the holiday season. The Poverello House, Salvation Army, Fresno Bully Rescue and Community Food Bank are just a few of many non-profit charities in Fresno that you can volunteer or donate to and help other less fortunate.
Adults and students alike still have time to donate their resources or time to local charities and larger organizations. This might be just the time to #payitforward and volunteer during the Christmas break.
Poverello House
In the Sikh community, sharing is part of their teachings and religion. They donated a check for $20,000 to the Poverello House on Nov. 16. The money will go towards providing meals, services and such during this holiday season. According to the Fresno Bee the Sikh community has donated to the Poverello House for seven consecutive years. In the past six years the Sikh community has donated over $130,000 to the Poverello House.
Fresno Bully Rescue
The Fresno Bully rescue is a volunteer based, no kill shelter that rescues pit bulls. The Fresno Bully Rescue won $75,000 in the Designer Shoe Warehouse grant program for nonprofits. According to the director of Fresno Bully rescue, “The money will be used to build a new shelter”. The shelter houses about 45 dogs at a time. They have rescued over 2,000 pit bulls since 2008.
Salvation Army
This year, salvation army is teaming up with CBS47 and KSEE24 to bring warmth and joy to the kids in the valley. You can help children in the valley by providing a coat to those who unable to buy one. Stop by the KSEE24 or CBS47 Studios in Fresno, or any of their partners to choose a child from the Angel Tree or donate a coat.
