Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues the epic science fiction galaxy and the fight between good and evil. This is the seventh movie in the series, and has also been one of the most anticipated movies of 2015. Within the first weekend the film totaled $120.5 million on opening night, and $238 million on the first weekend. In total for the first two opening weeks the film has made $600.9 million. With the late opening in China the film has made $53.2 million in its opening weekend. The film is well on its way to breaking every record with $1.7 billion made world wide.
The story takes place 30 years after the sixth episode. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) has disappeared, and the Rebel Alliance needs to find him. The only problem is the First Order, the new bad guys, are also trying to find him. The main conflict in the film is that both groups are trying to find the final piece of a map to Skywalker’s last destination. Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) has found that missing map, and is going to return it to the Rebels when he is ambushed by the First Order.
After being captured Poe comes into contact with a stormtrooper named Finn (John Boyega). Finn decides to abandon what he was taught and help Poe escape. Finn now becomes a traitor to the First Order and is now on their wanted list.
Rey (Daisy Ridley), an abandoned girl who lives on the planet Jakku, comes into contact with the map from Poe’s droid. She then becomes a target for the First Order and has to flee her planet. On Rey’s mission to return the droid and the map to the rebels, she receives help from Finn, Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew).
After meeting Solo and Chewbacca, Rey gets kidnapped by Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Rey learns that she is not like everybody else and finds new abilities while being interrogated, which she uses to escape.
Star Wars has always tried to portray the constant fight between good and evil. The Jedi fight for what is true and and right in the galaxy, and the Sith want to destroy all freedom and good in the galaxy. In episode seven the main theme is trying to bring back the good to the galaxy. Once good is gone in the world the world turns into anarchy and evil will gain control.
Another theme portrayed in the film is that a person can change their image in any situation by doing good. Finn was a stormtrooper for the First Order. He saw Poe doing good and he decided that is who he wanted to be. So he threw away all that he had learned and decided to change for the better by joining Poe.
J.J. Abrams isn’t new to the science fiction genre. He directed “Super 8“, “Star Trek” and “Star Trek: into darkness“, and produced”Armageddon“, and many others. He was also accompanied by two other well known producers, Kathleen Kennedy and Bryan Burk. Kennedy’s most popular movies she produced are “Jurassic park” one and three, “E.T, the Extra Terrestial“, “War Horse“, and “War of the Worlds“. Burk was the producers of “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation“, “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol“, “Cloverfield“, “Star Trek Into Darkness”, and “Super 8”.
I think that this movie shows just how far this series has come. The community has waited almost 10 years for this movie and it was worth the wait. The movie has a very good story line and the special effects are amazing. The series has come a long way and I do not know if it can get any better than this. At some points in the movie I thought it was real life. I liked this movie so much I have seen it three times and I definitely recommend this movie to all people. All age groups would enjoy this movie.
The only bad thing that I have to say about this movie is that it felt rushed at some points. The movie went from scene to scene kind of fast, making it difficult to keep track of. But overall, the plot was still very enjoyable.
