Are you beautiful?
Would you raise your hand?
Or would you cover your crooked teeth?
Straighten your frizzy hair?
Look down to the ground,
Shift uncomfortably in your chair?

Would you think about the pimples
on your forehead and your chin?
Would you laugh nervously,
while your stomach churned within?
Would you slouch in your seat
to shrink from your height?
Would you slump your shoulders
and wish you were out of sight?

If I asked you,
Are you beautiful?
Would you raise your hand?
Would you smile your widest smile
and raise your hand up high?
Would you jump out of your seat?
Would you let yourself shine?

Are you beautiful?
Go ahead. Raise your hand.
Raise it high and keep it there.
And believe it.
Because you are.
Beautiful.
