Home economics students craft cookies to ship overseas
In honor of the holiday season, home economics students baked cookies to send to Matt Doyle, an FC graduate. Doyle, ‘06, is currently deployed in Kuwait. Sharon Scharf’s home economics class baked the cookies during third period, Dec. 9.
Scharf has sent baked goods across seas previously many times. She is excited to be able to support a campus alumni this time around.
“Mr. Foshee ran into Matt Doyle’s dad,” Scharf said. “Matt Doyle is one of our graduates who graduated about ten years ago and he is deployed to Kuwait right now, so we thought it would be a great opportunity to support him and send him cookies. I’m very excited to do this and I’m always supportive of our troops.”

Junior Thomas Friesen baked cookies in Scharf’s third period class. Friesen is thankful for the opportunity to support our troops.
“I’m excited to send these cookies to our troops overseas,” Friesen said. “I think it’s important that we show them that we support them when they’re over there fighting for our country and I’m grateful for this opportunity. I think it makes it even more important that he is a graduate from FC because he came from this school and it’s good that we support them. When they’re over there, they probably won’t get Christmas cookies unless we send them to them.”

Eighth grader Janae Shew was also thankful for the opportunity, especially considering that her donation would be sent to an FC alumni. This allowed her to combine her passion for baking with supporting troops overseas.
“I think it’s a good thing to do for them,” Shew said. “They’ve done a lot for our country and it’s a good way to show that we are thankful for them. It’s nice to know that we can still support FCS alumni even when they are not here.”
