Dear Editor,
Sports are exhausting and difficult to withstand. They take over people’s lives. I agree with the Oct. 11 article by Jesse Madsen titled “To Quit or not to Quit?” Quitting is always an option, and it is hard to decide what to do.
I do not play on the football team, but I do play on the varsity basketball team. Quitting is always on a player’s mind. Is all of this time and work worth it?
A sports commitment allows very little time for fun. Students’ grades suffer tremendously. By the end of the season the players are so beat up and exhausted that they just do not want to show up.
Then Jesse goes on to say how sports help him in his life. I also believe this. The players have to learn how to work through the hardships. One often becomes exhausted and lifeless, but still needs to get up and go.
We cannot give up in life. Many times there are too many responsibilities to just give up. If a parent of a family has to provide for their families needs then they have to go on.
Adversity does not kill you; it makes you stronger. Hardships in sports teach many qualities that we all need to survive in life.
