The AP biology class incubate E. coli cells with modified genes containing Green Fluorescent Protein, (GFP). Demonstrating the simple experiment of transformation, Feb. 26.
GFP is normally found within bioluminescent jellyfish and is the natural source for the florescent gene. This is one of the more commonly used genes for many transformation experiments due to its ease to detect under ultraviolet light.
The experiment was ultimately successful, with each group finding the correct results on the intended plates.
