Dear editor,
Tennis is not a gentleman’s sport. I disagree with Jennifer Schmidt when she writes about the ball being our greatest opponent in her Sept. 10, online article, “”Tennis anticipates consecutive championships.””
Although the rival on the other side of the court controls the ball, the ball is not the opponent. I use the ball to control my opponent.
My opponent has to work harder when I place the ball where I want, and even harder when I hit the ball with more power.
It is all about being competitive. My biggest goal on the court is to demolish my opponent, not the ball.
