Boys tennis participated in two contests, Feb. 29 – March 5. The team traveled to Caruthers HS in a league game match-up, Tues. March 1. The team participated in the Central California Tennis Classic tournament, Fri. March 4. In this tournament the team played three matches.
At the beginning of the week the team traveled to their second away game of the season to face off against Caruthers Tues. March 1. Looking to continue on a hot start the team was very hopeful for taking a win against the Blue Raiders. The Eagles won 6-3 losing only two singles matches and one doubles match. The match involving FC’s William Vanderkooi, ’17, and Reese Brown, ’19, was the key victory in pushing the Eagles over the Blue Raiders.
The Central California Tennis Classic tournament this year was cut short to only one day of the tournament due to weather conditions the following day. During the tournament the boys played Kingsburg, Buhach Colony and Hanford.
The first match against Kingsburg was very close and went down to the number of sets and games won by both teams. After the scores were tallied the Eagles had more victories and therefore took the win.

Buhach Colony proved to be a tough opponent during the tournament and defeated the Eagles 4-2 (Only three singles matches and three doubles matches played). The strength for Buhach Colony came in their doubles games in which they won all three.
At the end of the day the Eagles faced Hanford and beat them 5-1, their only loss being third doubles. The boys found the strength to end the day off well and take second overall in the tournament.
Junior Zach Passmore is happy with how his team played at the tournament and recognizes what needs to be improved on.
“I think the team played great at the tournament,” Passmore said. “It’s been a little rough because of the shift in our ladder but I know we can adjust to the changes. The biggest things we can improve on are second serves. Not only landing good second serves but also attacking our opponent’s second serves. Hitting a well placed shot off of a second serve is something that we can all improve on.”
The Eagles are now 2-0 in league and 4-1 overall. Next week they will play Dos Palos and Fowler and look to continue their win streak.
