Grass skirts, hula dancing, authentic Hawaiian food and island music will fill Hawaiian day with festivity during Spirit Week on May 6.
Spirit week has been planned by student leadership to encourage fellowship within the student body towards the end of the year. Other events include a faculty basketball game, a spring rally and water balloon day during the week of May 2-6.
?I am really excited about the Luau,? Tara Albrechtson, ?06, said. ?Especially because it is an event I have grown up with, and I want to share the real Hawaiian culture with the student body.?
Various lunch days have been planned in the past to promote Spirit week but this year, student leadership will bring a tropical environment for the student body and a feast of Hawaiian food.
The Luau will be different from the other days during the week because the event will not take away from the students? lunchtime. It will provide a relaxed Hawaiian atmosphere where students are able to play ultimate Frisbee and munch on authentic food that will be catered by LnL Hawaiian barbeque.
?The Luau is a great way for the student body to end the school year and begin the summer,? Kimberly Bimat, ?06, said. ? It will be a kick back day that the students will definitely enjoy, Aloha!?
Students will be allowed to wear board shorts, flip flops and other Hawaiian attire on May 6. Student leadership has arranged a special surprise and hula dancing that will take place during lunch.
?I am anxious to see how the student body responds to the luau,? Carina Moran, ?05, said. ?It is a creative and fun event.?
