Being the youngest of the team and having minimal experience with photography I have learned that responsibility is the most important trait one can have.
I am thankful for the opportunity to be apart of the photojournalism team. I have learned how to correctly set up my camera settings, which was the hardest thing for me to learn. But now I just turn the dial, set my ISO and everything is perfect. Through this program I have gained a understanding of what photography truly is, that I will never be able to get anywhere else.
From sports rallies to capturing student life on campus, one event in particular will probably always be my favorite to shoot. That event is worship chapel.
The fact that we are given the opportunity to openly worship God is incredible. As the room would fill up with students and the worship team was called up to stage, it was almost as everything was left outside of the room. I was able to capture one of the most important events that happens on a daily basis at Fresno Christian.
Another one of my favorite events that I was able to shoot was the homecoming rally. The week of homecoming was one of the busiest weeks for everyone on The Feather. We had to take pictures of every thing that was going on during each day. That Friday was the annual rally, the gym was full of high school students working together to gain points for their class. I loved that I was able to capture the emotion of this event and how everyone in each class was so involved in that week. I saw FCS as a real community from behind the lens while shooting that event.
In the future I would like to use these photography and writing skills that I have gained as a side job. With very little of my high school career, I hope that I will be able to gain more of a love for photography to use as a profession.
It has been an honor being a part of The Feather staff. This year we won the Gold Crown Award, the NSPA Pacemaker award and being honored by Mayor Ashley Swearengin at city hall. This group of young people have been a exceptional example of Fresno Christian’s excellence in education.
I would like to thank Kori Friesen for believing in me. I struggled at the beginning but you helped me overcome and helped me step up to the plate. You are my role model and I hope that one day I will be able to become a great photographer like you.
I can not wait for the next years to come. Being a part of this team has helped me better understand what is happening in the world around me.
