[/media-credit] National News Engagement Day encourages students to be engaged in their school, local and national news.

News is always on a continuous loop within TV stations and online newspapers. Whether it is being captured by a camera, personal cell phone or on the keys of a laptop, news reaches us in all different kinds of platforms. On a day such as today The Feather experiences its own real world situations of broadcasting, publishing, writing and recording news events that occur on the campus.

On the week of homecoming, each day is filled with a variety of action that is to be recorded and written for others to view. With this constant daily round up of videos, slideshows, recaps and features we begin to realize the importance of sharing the news and the alertness that we as writers need to maintain in order to act as true reporters.

In celebration of this annual day, The Feather reaches out to students and teachers to discuss the matters in which others receive their news and the importance of it.

“I feel like everyone should be engaged and involved in the news. It is important for us to be involved in the news so we can have an understanding of what goes on around us. “I don’t want people to take the power of the news for granted. Something like the news should not be ignored by people around the world. I get my news from apps on my phone such as CBS, CNN and ABC. With these resources I am able to see what is going around me and it notifies me quickly so I can stay on top of the news.”

“I think its really important to stay engaged in the news so you’re aware of what’s going on. Whether you are reading Time Magazine, the Fresno Bee, or just trying to find information I think its important as a person in society to stay up to date with current events. I read anything I can get my hands on whether it’s liberal news in CNN or really conservative like Fox News. I think it’s really cool that in our country we have a wide variety of news sources.”

News is taken for granted
