Feature Art No. 5

Artist: Cayla Rivas

Title: Silenced

UPDATE: May 1, 2017

Cayla Rivas, ’18, is awarded the Gene Butler Student Scholarship and an Allard’s gift certificate in the Clovis Art Guild, May 1. Rivas competed against students from area high schools. “Silenced” will be submitted to the Congressional Art Competition.

The winner of the Congressional Art competition will be given tickets to Washington D.C. to view their piece in the Congressional show.

Description: This piece is a colored pencil drawing. I used many different shades of green grays and four different french grays on the face and hands. On the fingers I used hints of reddish pink. My art inspiration comes from a photograph; I added the eyes in from another photograph of a girls eyes that I liked. This drawing represents a girl who had her own way of thinking with a beautiful creative mind, but nobody understood it. People tried to correct her way of thinking and take away the unique parts about her. She fixed the parts people didn’t like and silenced herself. The eyes give us a glimpse of her uniqueness. I designed the eyes to stand out to the people who see this piece so they can connect to my drawing.

About the artist: Cayla Rivas is in her third year of high school art. Rivas’ artistic goals are to major in photography with a minor in fine art. Inspiration for her creative works come from the world of photography and many other artists.
