Varsity team welcomes multiple freshman
Soccer season is right around the corner and FC has high expectations for the Eagles this year. The players and the coaches expect another successful season.
After making the semifinals last year in valley playoffs the team concluded their season with a loss to No. 1 Mendota. Last years disappointing finish have made the Eagles stronger this year.
New members like Akash Singh, ‘18, and various incoming freshmen should help bolster the squad for this year. Losing seniors is always a challenge but coach Matt Markarian knows that they can overcome this. He believes that will enough adequate preparation the team will be ready for the long season.
“I am very excited to see what the kids have in store for me,” Markarian said. “It speaks to the health of soccer in our country and in our school. We are always looking for cutting edge training techniques. We want to be able to incorporate more rest into our schedule than we ever have before. As a coach, my job is to keep them as fit as possible so when game time comes around, they will be fully prepared.”
Returning players from last years team are held with the responsibility to welcome the newcomers and ease them into the process. With new players coming in, all members have to learn to build chemistry quickly.
One of the biggest holes that need to be filled by this year’s squad is the goalie position. Last year’s team had senior first team all league goalkeeper Bailey Brogan.
Last years captain Jacob Bynum, ‘17, is expected to take on the leadership role again this year. With the amount of responsibility that comes with that, Bynum seems more than ready to take on the challenge for another year.
“Being captain for last year’s team was a really great experience for me,” Bynum said. “I want to be hard on this years players and show them that nothing comes easy. You have to work your butt off to prove you are capable enough to start. Soccer is a great experience and I am looking forward to seeing all the freshmen that are coming out to play this season.”
Fans are expecting to see more from the team this year than they saw in the previous season. The freshmen have committed to soccer and expect to help the team in various ways.
The boys will be playing their first home game against Sierra on Nov. 29 at the FC stadium. Come support your Eagles!
