Robert Foshee’s fifth period civics class prepares for the upcoming mock trial, Nov. 9.

The class begins their project of cases. Students research real court studies to form their own case.

The class splits into a defendant group and prosecutor group. Each group is given a case that represents a realistic court trial.

Olivia Palmer, ’17, enjoys the mock trial and how it can prepare you for real juries.

“They (mock trials) help because they give us a chance to feel how it is to debate and discuss a situation that could happen if you were in a real jury,” Palmer said. “I enjoy it because it’s fun to debate with classmates and we get to make a decision and be in control. As long as we do our part and do our work we get a good grade, it just depends on how serious you take it.”

Teacher Robert Foshee believes that the assignment helps students prepare for life outside of high school when they will have to serve in a jury.
