Despite their long-past graduation, parents returned to campus for the annual Back to School Night on Aug. 29.
Back to School Night provides parents with the opportunity to learn about their children?s educators and their programs.
?It is important for parents to go to back to school night,? Molly Sargent, English teacher, said. ?It is a good time to explain to parents about your classes in order to gain from home and hopefully increase students? success during the year.?
Teachers seem to focus on many different approaches in their Back to School Night presentations so as to engage not only their students, but the parents as well.
?In a successful Back to School Night I find it more successful to be nice and smile and not to be stiff,? Christina Lumeya, French teacher, said. ?I try to make my curriculum interesting and fun for the students and then show their parents that their children are really interested in it.?
By introducing their programs, teachers are able to update parents on their children?s education.
?At Back to School Night I first introduce myself,? Scott Falk said. ?I also tell parents about the upcoming projects, talk about what were doing, and talk about what I will be teaching the students.?
Generally the point of view of the teachers and principals? remain similar as far as the presentations for Back to School Night.
?Back to School Night is the one chance when the parents can see and really get to know a teacher,? Gary Schultz, principal, said.? It also provides an opportunity for parents to remember what it is like to sit and listen to teachers talking.?
One of the more beneficial portions of the evening was introducing parents to website tools so as to keep themselves informed of their students? grades and classroom progress.
?It is so helpful when a large group of parents come to Back to School Night,? Schultz said. ?It saves teachers a lot of time explaining how to utilize The Vault and the PowerSchool grade book to a large group than to individual parents.?
