There is a new car in the parking lot: a 1963 Chevy Nova. Most high school students own newer cars but junior Cayla Rivas is not one to follow the crowd.
For her 16th birthday, Rivas received her first car; knowing that it would be a project.
“You don’t really see young people out driving old muscle cars.” Rivas said. “Driving a stick takes a little more thinking, but it’s a lot of fun to drive. Even though it was a lot of work it was definitely worth the wait.”
Rivas and her father Chris owner and mechanic of Chris Rivas V-Twin have worked on the car for a little over a year. The work put into making the car drive able included a new paint job along with adding racing stripes, rebuilding the engine, changing the front and rear axels, adding new rims and tires and finishing it off with new steering wheel. There is still more left to add to the car but for now it is driveable.
