Many people have special talents and hobbies which they use to enrich the lives of others. These talents can take many different forms from music to drama. In this case, the talent is making movies.

International student Keith Zhu, ’18, has recently finished his first movie. The film takes place on campus and includes many people from the FC community including teacher and Feather adviser Kori Friesen.

“Keith asked me to play a part in the movie and I had no idea it would be the main part until filming began,” Friesen said. “Anytime we can support a student’s achievements, talents or efforts I believe we are building community. Keith had a passion to do this and his goal was to promote the tech class.”

In addition to Friesen, there were also a number of students involved in the making of this movie. Cameraman Daniel Walker, ’17, shared about his involvement in this film.

“My role in the movie was to film behind the scenes footage of everyone and record bloopers,” Walker said. “Keith asked me to and I thought it would be kind of fun to record parts of a film. This contributes to the school by showing the skills and talents of our student come together to make a fun video everyone can watch.”

An actress in the film, Hannah Nale, ’17, related some of her experiences from making this film.

“I was a supporting actress in Keith’s movie,” Nale said. “Although my moments on screen may be little, I really enjoyed having the opportunity to join the video productions crew in filming this movie. My favorite part of filming was being able to laugh with friends over our mistakes and see the progress of the filming and creation.”

This movie was made in video productions class. Zhu shares his motivation for making this movie and how he enjoys filmmaking.

“I enjoyed the filming because it was my first time being a scriptwriter and director,” Zhu said. “I have been editing for a while, however, this is my first time using an industrial grade program Premiere Pro.

“Sometimes I asked Clark Zhu for help,” Zhu continued. “One of the struggles I had when I was directing this film, was communicating with the actors and actresses. Sometimes it is hard to tell them what to do to make the movie seem more realistic.”

Along with being a part of the video productions class, Zhu is also a member of The Feather Online. He writes articles and occasionally takes pictures.
