After three weeks in the UCSF hospital, Sage Sobrado, ’17, returns back to his home in Fresno.
Sobrado was airlifted to the UCSF hospital from Community Regional Medical Center after doctors decided they needed the help of doctors more experienced in Sage’s case.
While in San Francisco, doctors found a blood clot in a major artery in his leg and multiple blood clots in his lungs with intestinal bleeding. Sobrado was later diagnosed with pulmonary embolism, C. diff, and he is one out of 300,o00 people to have ulcerative colitis.
Undergoing three procedures, two for intestinal bleeding, and one for the blood clots, Sobrado is very thankful for the doctors and nurses that took care of him.
“I didn’t know how serious my condition was,” Sobrado said. “It really scared me when the doctor told me I should have died three weeks ago.”
Three weeks prior to Sobrado’s visit to the ICU, Sobrado was working out with the track team, lifting weights and running.
After receiving an athletic scholarship to play football for Santa Barbra City College, Sobrado will be taking a year off of football to finish his treatment of blood thinners and gain back strength for the next football season.
