Campus yearbook receives Look Book honor
Fresno Christian’s yearbook The Shield has recently received recognition for its creative design and extensive coverage.
The high school yearbook was rewarded for its excellence and featured in the 2017 Jostens Look Book.
The Shield started out as a high school yearbook in 1982, consisting of only 42 pages. Thirty-five years later, the yearbook has nearly tripled in size, and provides Fresno Christian with memories that will last a lifetime.
The recognition The Shield received from Jostens started despite just a few students taking yearbook in 2016. Maddie Luginbill, ‘16, the editor in chief, led the team of six girls through the school year, with Andrea Donaghe as their yearbook adviser. The Shield was recognized for the 2016 copy of their yearbook.
This recognition is a first for Fresno Christian High School since Donaghe started as the yearbook adviser. She is proud of her previous yearbook team for completing such an honor. She is excited to see what her present staff is capable of doing.
“This is my third year as yearbook adviser at Fresno Christian, and this truly is a testament to how hard our students work,” Donaghe said. “These six young women put their heart and souls into this yearbook and clearly, the work showed off and paid off.”
Jenna Bynum, ’18, took yearbook class last year with all senior girls. Now she is the editor of The Shield, because of her work and dedication to the yearbook.
“It was really fun to being the only underclassman member and having older girls to look up to last year,” Bynum said. “It was super cool to get recognized this year for yearbook, because we usually don’t get recognized for the hard work we accomplish. Yearbook has taught me to be a leader and work hard on everything I do to the best of my abilities.”

The campus high school yearbook was one of only 418 yearbooks selected from approximately 3,000 others. The judging panel consisted of nationally recognized scholastic journalism professionals and award-winning yearbook advisers. They selected The Shield as one of the best examples of yearbook spreads covers to create the 2017 Jostens Look Book.
Jostens Look Book is a collection of photos and covers from yearbooks and their creative themes, unique designs, and broad coverage of the school as a whole. The Look Book also honors the important role yearbooks play in supporting school experiences and stories.

Donaghe and her yearbook staff received a copy of the 2017 Jostens Look Book and a certificate for their efforts.
