Feature Art No. 2 by Joshua Savage
Title: Old Mill
Description: “This drawing is part of a series I have recently begun. The series focuses on the rustic, almost haunting beauty of the deep south and is inspired by a recent fascination of the picturesque forests, rivers, and bayous of the rustic, yet elegant southern states.
In this drawing, I focused on perfecting my shading and texturing, as well as implementing new techniques that make for a more realistic appearance. I chose to use traditional pencil as my medium, as I am able to create more detail with a fine point. I was a little hesitant at first, staring at the daunting white page before me, not knowing exactly how or where to start.
However, as I put my pencil to the page and began to draw the mill, I saw promising progress that didn’t seem so daunting after all. Sometimes you just need to start with simple lines and shapes; and as you make progress, you’ll find that you might just surprise yourself.”
The drawing is a scenic piece that depicts an old mill hidden in a forest, somewhere in the deep south.
I used only pencil throughout the project.

Amazing art, it’s really encouraging to see such great artists coming from the school.
