As grandparents of K-12 grade students experience a day of school with their grandchild, FC holds its 26th annual Grandparents Day, Sept. 22. Over 500 grandparents visit campus to celebrate Grandparents Day 2017.

Grandparents begin the morning from 9-9:30 with a welcome tent, providing free coffee and pastries. This period of time allows FC’s special visitors to introduce themselves to one another and meet faculty members. The grandparents will then attend a special chapel service from 9:30-10 a.m where the campus choir will sing and junior high leadership will make a presentation.

The students have prepared presentations in many of the elementary classes and the grandparents will visit the classrooms and spend time with their grandchild(ren) from 10-11:40 a.m. The junior high and high school students will enjoy an activity together during the same time.

Later a free box lunch is served to all grandparents and their grandchildren from 11:40 a.m. – 12:25 p.m with dismissal after lunch. For students who didn’t have a visiting grandparent personal pizzas are sold at a reduced price.

David Pitteger, adopted grandfather of Celeste Counts, ‘18, explains what he believes his grandchildren’s generation can learn from his generation and his thoughts on Grandparents Day,

Dedication and hardwork gets results. Work hard, don’t do what your friends do, don’t give into peer pressure, be dedicated, and trust in the Lord,” Pitteger said. “This is our third year participating. My favorite part was just hanging out with Celeste.”

Elementary works on crafts and activities with grandparents including personalized name projects and clay maps.

JH and high school students give their grandparents a tour of their classes and teachers. For almost two hours grandparents sit in classes and learn what subjects their grandchildren are learning about.

Sixth grader Paige Deffenbacher shares what she loves about her grandparents,

My grandparents care about me a lot and they love me so much and they spend time with me,” Deffenbacher said. “They are the best because they always love me and they try their hardest to spend time with me.”

Lunch begins at 11:40 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m. An estimated 1100 meals are served to our guests and their grandchildren.

Last year just over 500 grandparents attended Grandparents Day. Thank you to all the community support which helped make Grandparents Day 2017 a success.
