25 more poems to analyze

Sophia Kalugin, ’19, begins to read and analyze her second assigned poem for AP literature, Nov. 9.

AP literature class has begun their poetry unit, digging into the text and researching the author. Last week, English teacher Andrea Donaghe assigned her class individual poems to analyze. Throughout the week, class periods were devoted to sharing their analysis and bits of information discovered about the author.

Kalugin has enjoyed Donaghe’s approach on studying poetry and her given poetry,

“The first poem I analyzed was called ‘A Total Stranger One Black Day‘,” Kalugin said. “The poem was about forgiving yourself from past mistakes you might have made. I am currently reading ‘Clothes from Heaven’. I enjoy the way we analyze poems collectively because it really opens up the opportunity for every students opinion to be heard.”

Students learn about theme, tone and style of poems.
