Junior Alex Rurik is featured on the worship team in chapel as the first banjo player at FC, Nov. 16.
Rurik began playing banjo at the summer before his freshman year of high school. He was drawn to the instrument because of it’s rarity and uncommonness.
“I always wanted to play something different than just piano,” Rurik said. “I wanted to play something versatile and fun that not everybody plays. It allows a lot more creativity than guitar or bass does which is something that I love about it. ”
Inspiration comes from the band Mumford and Sons‘ banjo player.
At most worship chapels, you will find him on the keyboard. Banjo is not the only instrument Rurik excels in, he also plays guitar, ukulele, and piano.
You can catch Alex playing piano in worship chapel, Dec. 7.
