First grade teachers Michelle Blackburn and Nicole Reeves, prepare their classes for the Christmas season with a craft party and gingerbread house building, Dec. 8.
Parent volunteers set up craft stations and gingerbread house building/decorating tables.
Students, with the help of parents, cover milk cartons with frosting and stick graham crackers to the sides as walls and a roof. They then decorate with gumdrops and other arrangements of candies. The finished products are festive gingerbread houses.
At craft stations, students create snowmen ornaments or reindeer jars.
Snowmen ornaments are created by coating the inside of a clear ornament with white paints. Next, students draw on a snowman face with paint pens.
Reindeer jars are made by sticking eyes, a red nose and antlers on a small jar. Students then fill their jars with whopper candies.
A third station students had the opportunity to enjoy is a ‘tree/snowman decorating’ activity. In this activity students and parents wrap their partner in green or white streamers representing Christmas trees and snowmen.
