Leadership, student body anticipate upcoming class competition
The annual winter sports rally takes place this Friday, Jan. 12. at 2:30 p.m. The rally will highlight the winter sports teams including; boy soccer, girls soccer, boys basketball and girls basketball. The rally will include announcements, games and music.
Each class was assigned a color to represent their grade. Students should wear their color or make posters to support their class and to get points. Colors are as follows:
Freshman: teal
Sophomores: yellow
Juniors: black
Seniors: crimson
Another way students can gain points for their class is through winning the games and cheering. The class that gets the most points wins a pizza party for the following Friday, Jan. 19.
This is the second sports rally of the year and Aubri Foster, leadership teacher, looks forward to encouraging the sports teams and seeing how the classes compete with each other.
“This rally will be pretty similar to the fall rally,” Foster said. “We will honor the sports teams soccer and then basketball and then of course play games with all the classes. We are going to be playing dodgeball in a class vs. class tournament with two-minute games. I am most looking forward to the way the classes support each other and the way that their spirit comes out.
“It is fun to see them get competitive but also encourage each other,” Foster continued. “First we will honor the teams and pray for them and then end with the game. I am incredibly proud of the way all the athletes represent Jesus on an off the field and court and I would encourage them to continue doing that and pursuing Christ as well as representing our school.”
Team recognition during the rally boosts athlete’s confidence. Varsity basketball player, Jacob Provost, ‘18, appreciates the opportunity for him and his team to be recognized for what they accomplish on the court.
“The (basketball) season so far is going great,” Provost said. “ We are just trying to stay close as a team right now and win as many games as we can. The winter sports rally gives recognition to the players and makes them more popular.”
Leadership treasurer, Griffin Schmidt, ‘19, looks forward to watching the classes compete in games during the rally.
“I am helping set up for the winter sports rally,” Schmidt said. “I am looking forward to watching the classes compete against each other and seeing which class wins the competition. The theme of this rally is ‘colors,’ and there will be a tournament style game or activity done during this rally.”
Girls varsity basketball captain Erin Wilson, ’18, appreciates the support from students at the winter sports rally.
“I love when all of the classes go head to head in competitions,” Wilson said. “ It is super fun to come together with my class in cheers and support for not only the team I am a part of but all the others. I’m definitely looking forward to all the fun games and activities we will do at this rally.”
