SOFTBALL–
Softball’s overall record, 2-3, and 2-3, in the WSL as of March 27. Softball will next host Tranquillity on April 4.
FIREBAUGH 10, FC 0 on March 30–
The visiting Eagles jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and added 4 more in the fifth to shut out FC.
FOWLER 7, FC 0 on March 27–
After Fowler took a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning, FC’s defense and pitching settled down and held the first place Redcats scoreless until the 4th inning. Fowler the scored runs in the next three innings to pull away and win, 7-0, on March 27.
While the Eagles had two girls on base in the third inning they were not able to capitalize. Lindsey Brush pitched despite nagging soreness in her shoulder and foot and kept the game close especially in the top of the third when she retired the side when the bases were loaded. Brush finished the game with 8 strikeouts.
FC 19, TRANQUILLITY 2 on March 23–
The Eagles jumped out to a 6-run lead in the first inning and cruised to a 19-2 win over Tranquillity on March 23. The game was already out of reach by the bottom of the second when FC added 4 more runs after the Tigers scored 2. Pitcher Candace Gondolfo won her second game of the season.
Shortstop Christina Cabias led the Eagles as she went 3-4 with 4 RBIs and a double. Outfielder Breanne Gondolfo also had a double and had 2 RBIs while centerfielder Katie White 2-3.
White created a stir amongst her teammates when she scored on an infield homerun in the third inning after a Tranquillity error. For the third game in a row, White has got on base after bunting.
Cabias also starred on defense as she turned a double play in the fourth inning when she scooped up a ground ball, tagged the runner on the way to third and threw out the batter at first.
LIBERTY-MADERA RANCHOS 7, FC 0 on March 21–
After 2 scoreless innings Liberty scored 3 runs in the third to pull away and defeated the Eagles, 7-0, on March 21. Despite Christina Cabias’ 2-3 effort, FC fell to 1-1 in the WSL.
Liberty added 1 run in the 4th and 3 in the 5th to put the game away.
FC 9, MENDOTA 7 on March 16–
After nearly a month of rain-outs and cancellations, the campus softball team finally took the field against Mendota and defeated the Aztecs, 9-7, on March 16. While senior pitcher Lindsey Brush gave up 5 runs in the 7th, she hung on and the young Eagles’ squad opened their season with most members getting a hit.
Freshman Candace Gondolfo had a double and was the only Eagle to get an extra base hit. FC scored 5 runs in the 6th inning to blow open the game and added 3 more runs in the 7th before the Aztec come-back fell short.
