Opened midnight Feb. 2, 1913; this station was the third train station built on 42nd St. constructed by Cornelius Vanderbilt. The overall cost to build was $ 2 billion (adjusted for inflation).
It is also the world’s largest train terminal, 45 track platforms and 63 tracks. The station reaches from 42nd Street to 97th Street, adding up to 33 miles of track. Every day approximately 750,000 people pass through Grand Central a day with some visitors coming for other reasons than catching a train. Inside, the station has multiple restaurants and stores to shop in.
