Dr. Karen Walter’s zoology class finish the study of the phylum, Porifera (sponges), with homemade models and presentations done by students, Sept. 20.
They discuss different types of sponge classes including; Demospongia, Calcarea, Hexatcinelle and Homoscleramorpha. Students analyze each class and their different functions in the unit.
Next, students focus on Cnidaria and Ctenophora animals. High schoolers split into small groups and create posters and presentations on an animal class in the phylum of Cnidarian such as Schyphozoa, Anthozoa, Hydrozoa and Cubozoa.
The class Tentaculata and Nuda in the phylum Ctenophoras is also studied by a group of students.
