Brother to Brother is a mentoring program started by advisor Terry Richards. Richards saw that there was a gap between the junior high and high school, so he decided to change things. The brothers all got together for the first time, Sept. 25.
Brother to brother started in 2010. Richards pairs a junior high student with a high school student so the older boys could give guidance or advice for the younger classmen. He also wanted to give the younger students a chance to make older high school friends for when they transition up. This year brother to brother has a total of 70 students.
“For the high school guy, it gives you a sense of purpose and the opportunity to invest into the lives of the younger guys,“ Richards said. “For the junior highers, it gives them an opportunity to get acquainted with older guys to find out what an older teenager is going through so that when they get there, it won’t be a complete surprise.”
