The Feather takes time out of Homecoming week to dive into the importance of news engagement on national News Engagement Day, Oct. 2.
There are so many different platforms to receive news off of. Some of the platforms include online sources, mobile, television, radio and most traditionally, printed newspapers. But with so many technological means of reading news, are printed newspapers loosing their demand?
Journalism.org states that about four-in-ten Americans often get news online. A survey conducted in 2016 shows 5% of people in the 18-29 age group receive news form printed newspapers. On the other hand, people in the age group of 65+ receive 48% of their news from printed newspapers.
In 2016 a study showed that only two-in-ten U.S. adults often get news from print newspapers. This number has decreased from 27% in 2013.
People who prefer reading news are likely to receive 10% of their news from television, 59% from online, 4% radio, and 27% from print. Even in the case of reading preference, people are more likely to read news online rather than in printed papers.
