High school worship team is currently reading, ‘In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day‘ by Mark Batterson, discussing significant points in the current chapter at the end of each week, Oct. 18.
The book discussed techniques and strategies to “survive and thrive when opportunity roars.”
Worship team teacher Daniel Garrison, commonly known as G, leads an end-of-week discussion every Friday. Students arrange themselves in chronological order of the page number their chosen passage to share is on. Each student selects a sentence or two that impacted them during their reading earlier in the week, sharing the importance of the piece.
Junior Deborah Ingerson‘s favorite idea she has come across in the book thus far is, facing our fears, and chasing the scary “lions” in our life. She shares her thoughts on the encouragement this concept provided her.
“My favorite idea from the book ‘In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day’ is that no matter who you are or what you’re doing with you’re life, you can be a lion chaser,” Ingerson said. “In fact, we should all be lion chasers instead of scaredy-cats. Meaning that we should all face our fears I love the quote, ‘But the goal of life is not the elimination of fear. The goal is to muster the moral courage to chase lions’. I like this book because it really encourages me in my faith. It encourages me to step out in faith whether it’s a big situation or even a small situation in my life. ”
Next semester, worship team will begin a different route, diving into a new series. The curriculum is still in the works.
The class recently created a new video series, introducing upcoming worship songs that may be new to many students and faculty. By introducing the song prior to Thursday worship chapel, students and faculty have already been presented the new lyrics.
