The ball crashs against the transparent plexi-glass walls as sweat drips down the faces of twelve aggressive athletes. Although the sport of indoor soccer appears uncommon to many, this leisure time activity soon becomes an obsession.
“My friends told me how much fun it was, so I gave it a try,” Ryan Brunn, ’08, said. “Indoor soccer is a great sport and it is one of my favorites to play. I have been playing since the fourth grade and I have been hooked on it since.”
Many find that with no out of bounds, many slam players into the walls to gain control of the field and play offensively instead of defensively.
“I think slamming people into the walls is a cheap-shot,” Kyle Brewer, ’07, said, “because it’s an unfair way to gain control of the ball.”
With only six players per team, five on the field and one in the goalie box, indoor soccer sharpens athlete?s reflexes.
“I enjoy playing indoor because it is more fast pace than normal soccer,” Tyler Enns, ’07, said. “The field is much smaller which makes you think before you actually get the ball. It also helps you on your ball handling skills.”
A regulation size field is 100 yards wide and 130 yards long, while an indoor soccer field is comparable to the size of a basketball court.
“I play indoor soccer for fun,” Larissa Hensley, ’09, said, “because even though I am not on the soccer team I like to play soccer and enjoy being with friends.”
