Media expands imaginations

When I get home from school, I usually turn on the television because my mind is tired and needs a break from the frustrations of the day. In response to Elise Aydelotteís April 6 article, ìMedia feeds unresponsive mindset,î I think that media expands our imaginations. Entertainment is often ìmindless, boring and never changing,î at least when I want it to be that way.

However, it can also provide a form of communication. Through the media, we are able to connect with different people, discover new relationships and apply the world to our lives.

We can be inspired by what we see on the news, in movies or hear in music. I completely agree that television, movies, music and video games all can be, as Aydelotte put it, ìmindless drivel.î

These media venues each have their own negative aspects of causing hindering peopleís mental, physical and sometimes spiritual growth, but they also have their positive aspects.

I do not think that participating in these forms of entertainment ìsucks our brains out,î and I do not think it is mediocrity. I believe that the media unites us.

We often can converse with different people about what we saw on the news, how that song on the radio made us think or how that movie made us value life. It is what people decide to make of it.

People can choose to submerse themselves in the ìmindless drivelî and escape from their lives, or they can actually use something they enjoy to do and apply it to their lives in a meaningful way.
