Sharon Scharf, home economics teacher, assembled her culinary army to build the annual 9-foot burrito.
The 7-year tradition, inspired by a La Victoria recipe, continued on Nov. 16.
“It’s always looked forward to it because it’s so spectacular and outlandish,” Scharf said. “I had a 10-foot long and 1″x12″ wide board that we covered with aluminum foil and made the burrito on.”
The burrito contained tortillas, beans, seasoned meat, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, olives, sour cream and guacamole. Total cost? $150.
“This is my first time making this,” Drew Wiese, ’09, said, “and I’m really excited; I think it was 9-feet of deliciousness.”
Although production time took the whole class period, all 15 students partcipated in its creation. While an elementary class crowed the doorway to the kitchen hoping for a taste, the home ec. class devoured all 9-feet in less than 10 minutes leaving the visitors without a nibble.
Senior Aliza Ford was one of four returning veterans, and believed this year’s assembly went smoother than last year.
“This year things went a lot smoother,” Ford said, “because this year we were in the Peoples Church kitchen, so we knew where everything was.”
