National Scholastic Journalism Week highlights volunteer opportunities with this year’s theme, ‘Dedicated to Our Communities’, Feb. 17-23. As voices of the FC student body, Feather staffers cover opportunities to volunteer around our community.
Many of this week’s featured locations have been supported by FC Serve Day in past years. This spotlight is dedicated towards service opportunities available at the Central Community Food Bank.
Throughout 2016-17, Central Community Food Bank distributed 38 million pounds of food through their partners such as school programs, food pantries, and congregate meals.
The food bank sees around 280,000 people a month those being 12% of seniors, 53% adults, and 35% children.
In 2018 around 18,000 people gave their time and money to Central California Food Bank contributing 5,914 volunteers and 40,574 hours of service. What are your favorite memories of serving at the food bank or at another organization? Share your stories below the service opportunities in the comment section.
