For each day of National Scholastic Journalism Week, The Feather looks to highlight our editors. Everyday will focus on a different editorial role and their position on the team. Today’s featured editors are seniors Kaylie Clem and Julia Fikse, photojournalist editors.
Clem and Fikse both joined The Feather their sophomore year, making this their third year on the team. They work together to run Instagram, write photoposts, edit photos and other photojournalist’s posts. Part of their role covers photographing school and community events, student life and class activities.
Fikse became a photojournalism editor during her senior year and finds the hardest part of her job is the constent mindset of a photojournalist.
One of her greatest accomplishments on The Feather was winning two CSPA Gold Crown awards while in New York.
She hopes to take the knowledge she continues to gain from The Feather and further her career as a professional photographer through her business Julia Jaelyn Photography.
An interesting fact about Fikse is she once flew a jet with the help of a pilot.
Similar to Fikse, Clem also earned the title of photojournalist editor her senior year.
With the skills she has gained during her time on The Feather, Clem hopes to become a teacher. Alongside teaching, she aspires to continue her photography business, Kaylie Grace Photography.
A few facts about Clem is the her heartbeat sound she makes with her throat and the number one place on her bucket list to visit is Iceland.
Clem and Fikse plan to teach two classes during The Feather’s trip to Anaheim in April. The classes focus on how to utilize social media and images as a hook for your readers.
