For the ninth annual ‘Serve Day’, an all-day school event with eight new and returning volunteer locations available to sign up for at tables during chapel, Feb 26. High schoolers choose the location they want to serve in order of grade, with seniors picking first and freshmen last.
New locations to serve at this year included Every Neighborhood Partnership (ENP) Warehouse, Legacy Apartments and an old returning choice: park cleanup. The other five volunteer options are Valley Dream Center, Reading Hearts, graffitti cleanup, Community Food Bank, and community garden cleanup.
Other students who did not have a preference signed up at the “where need” table. They will disperse into locations most needed.
Each serve option includes four to five leadership students to serve in the groups along with an FC faculty member.
Teens will gather in the SMC before breaking off into their volunteer groups before departing at 9 a.m. and returning around 2 p.m., March 12.
While high school serves the community, JH will be on FC and Peoples Church campus.
Before ‘Serve Day’, leadership and Feather members participate in another service activity: Kid’s Day, March 5. The Feather will connect and interview ABC 30, Fresno Bee and Valley Children’s Healthcare. The goal is to sell special edition Kid’s Day newspapers for $1 to raise money for Valley Children’s.
Last year over $2,500 papers sold by FC students.
