Freshman Maxwell Hinton (pictured left) and Kamdon Marquez (pictured right) dissect squids in Dr. Karen Walters’ second-period biology class, March 7.
Walters gave each student a packet with instructions on what to look for within the squid. Every student was required to answer questions within the packet as a part of the assignment. In addition, the goal of this dissection was to teach students about different types of ‘soft-bodied’ creatures.
Hinton, ‘22, uses biology as a way to learn about science from a Christian perspective.
“My favorite part of participating in this dissection was removing the guts from the mantle,” Hinton said. “Through this dissection, I learned that a squid has a pen that adds rigidity. I had not previously known this. Furthermore, biology is helping me to learn about life and change from a teacher with a Christian worldview.”
Biology will be continuing their Animal Kingdom unit throughout the next few weeks.
